The Long Dark Tales From The Far Territory Free

Tales from the Far Territory will be released in 6 parts over 12 months leading up to the release of Episode 5. The updates will roughly be every 8-10 weeks. Along with the paid content, the updates will include free content available for those who own The Long Dark (the edition which pairs Survival Mode with WINTERMUTE Story Mode) or Survival Edition. The expansion pass will only need to be purchased once to own all of the following current and future paid updates.

Starting off a 12 month long cycle of updates, The Long Dark: Tales from the Far Territory is the first DLC for the survival game acting as an expansion pass. That, plus a bunch of free updates too. This is the first paid DLC for the game that released in 2017, with the full story not yet complete this is largely focused on the survival game mode.

On Monday, December 5, 2022, The Long Dark will receive its first paid expansion, Tales from the Far Territory, along with a free update that can be enjoyed by all players. Hinterland Studio has outlined an ambitious amount of content that will make its way to the game over the year-long expansion pass, introducing new regions and gameplay systems that promise to change how The Long Dark plays whether you purchase Tales from the Far Territory or not. I was lucky enough to speak with Katie Sorrell, Project Lead on The Long Dark, and Raphael van Lierop, Founder and Creative Director of Hinterland Studio, about the expansion itself and the future of the game. Shacknews: The Long Dark has grown in scope every year and added a considerable amount of free content for players who own the game. Why was now the right time to introduce its first paid expansion pass, Tales from the Far Territory

Hinterland (Raphael): Really, the idea for adding a paid expansion came from the community itself. They wanted us to make something new for Survival Mode, something more ambitious, and also wanted to give us money for it. We also felt that after 8 years of free updates, that maybe it was time to try selling something again, which is an important part of running a sustainable business.

With fully customizable difficulty levels, there's something for survival players of every skill level. There's no \"winning\" survival mode, just lasting until you don't, until you finally slip into the long dark, and then begin anew.

Originally released in 2014 in Early Access on Steam and later in 2015 as part of the reveal of Game Preview on Xbox, The Long Dark has come a long way in its development. The game has since seen the release of its free story mode DLC, Wintermute, along with multiple free quality of life updates. Hinterland has recently announced via a dev diary that players can look forward to an additional 12-month long campaign that will add even more content, this time as expansion DLC for survival mode titled Tales from the Far Territory.

Tales from the Far Territory is the first paid DLC to release for The Long Dark and will span across a 12-month long campaign to add three new regions specifically to the game's survival mode. The first of these new regions, \"Forsaken Airfield\" will launch at the start of the expansion pass's lifecycle in Dec. 2022 and will be the first time The Long Dark's setting on Great Bear Island has been expanded. Players will need to survive a long and perilous journey along railways, tunnels and caverns to eventually reach a hub region that will provide access to all three new areas that will eventually be available as part of Tales from the Far Territory's content drops. Hinterland is currently planning an aggressive slate of content with the goal of releasing new drops every 8-10 weeks.

Tales from the Far Territory will launch with a $20 price tag; however, Hinterland has said that the price will increase in increments of $5 over the course of its 12-month lifespan as additional content is released with the final price at the end of the campaign settling at $30. While picking up the DLC at launch may provide the most value, players who choose to wait to see the outcome of the content drops and their long-standing effect on game play can feel free to do so as there are no plans to vault content over time.

In addition to the paid DLC content, players can also look forward to a continuation of free content drops and quality of life features coming along to The Long Dark. Hinterland plans to initiate a full global loot and wildlife refresh with changes to the loot tables, pre-placed loot, and a rebalanced economy across the entire game. A full resource refresh will go live with the launch of Tales from the Far Territory while a wildlife refresh will come later on in the campaign cycle. New items like a thermos and edible plants, as well as visor notes pointing to the locations of supply caches and other useful resources will also be added. New first-person animations and other visual enhancements geared toward high-end systems are also planned.

The Long Dark: Tales from the Far Territory is paid DLC that adds three new territories to The Long Dark, along with three new narrative challenges, various new items, and 20 minutes of new survival music. The Long Dark DLC also overhauls existing items and existing systems like fire starting and fishing.

All of this will be accompanied by three narrative-driven Tales, detailing the territory's mysterious past. Each will feature its own gameplay objectives, tying back to the storyline found in the extremely long-awaited final episode of The Long Dark's Wintermute campaign.

In addition to Tales from the Far Territory, Hinterland is working on a range of new features for all players, arriving in free updates alongside the expansion's various content drops. These include new spawn points for players (intended to restore the sense of being \"lost\" at the start of a new game), plus a wildlife spawn refresh, and updated loot tables and item placements.

TALES FROM THE FAR TERRITORY is a 12-month Expansion Pass campaign for THE LONG DARK. As such, content will be delivered in regular Parts over the course of the campaign. Each Part will be accompanied by an update video that explains what is being included in both the Paid and Free streams. \"Cross Country\" tells of an effort on the part of two young men to escape from Detroit permanently. One of them has read On the Road and the dream of a good life in California impels them to set out on the journey in a dilapidated car. Here as everywhere in Detroit Tales Daniels provides convincing detail. The car contains a cooler full of beer and cans of spray cheese which one of the boys sprays directly into his mouth rather than onto crackers. He plucks hairs out of a scraggly beard. The boys proceed westward, stopping en route to stay with a cousin, but going onward until they reach Utah, where the failure of the car and a general sense of the failure of the hope of conquering the west makes them turn around and return home: \"I'm not an On the Road guy. I'm sorry. I thought I was.\" Ultimately, after the death of one of them, the other manages to get trained in New York to be a cook. But freedom does not ensue: \"You can't really make yourself over in a new place,\" he writes in his notebook. \"Everything you're going to be is already inside you. . . . I've never been to California, though I've had my chances.\" Such an account of this story, one of the strongest in the collection, does scant justice to its complexity. Daniels has a fine ear for dialogue and internal reverie. He doesn't sentimentalize his down-and-out characters, but he notices bright spots in their lives, reminding us of the honorable tradition of realistic, gritty fictions about young men and women in the Midwest by James T. Farrell, Joyce Carol Oates, Charles Baxter, and many others.
